1. Just what is this place? What exactly do you do here?
These are the offices of the Rocky Mount Lifestyle Health Center. We had our Grand Opening on January 6, 2008. We provide lifestyle education and resources to treat and manage chronic diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and obesity. We use the proven CHIP program (Coronary Health Improvement Project) that has more than 50,000 graduates worldwide. We do comprehensive computerized lifestyle assessments and provide individualized lifestyle change recommendations. Then we use the CHIP program with personalized consultations to help implement the recommendations to lower your weight, your blood sugar, your cholesterol, your blood pressure and help you feel better than ever. We usually have about 20-30 people in each program. A new program starts up each quarter. We have lectures, educational activities and cooking demonstrations with taste samples. Participants come each evening for four weeks, and then once-a-week for two months, and then once-a-month as long as needed. Our alumni group meets every month. [top]
2. Who is doing this? Are you part of a church?
We are a non-profit corporation, Lifestyle Health Education, Inc., that operates this Center with volunteer assistance from the community and the Rocky Mount Seventh-day Adventist church. As a non-profit corporation, no one actually owns the Center—it is operated as a charitable educational service for the community. Our present staff includes a physician, a nurse, a chef and many community volunteers. [top]
3. Do you have a medical doctor? Do you provide medical care?
Yes, our staff includes a licensed medical doctor who specializes in Lifestyle and Preventive Medicine. He and the staff provide lifestyle health assessment and treatment using the CHIP lifestyle program (Coronary Health Improvement Project). We do not provide regular primary care, but we can refer you to doctors in the area who do. [top]
4. What exactly is CHIP? What does it mean?
C-H-I-P stands for Coronary Health Improvement Project. It is an award-winning lifestyle health program with over 50,000 graduates around the world. There are over 500 chapters in North America alone. (www.SDACHIP.org) We use the CHIP program to reduce blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure. Folks also lose weight and feel better than ever. [top]
5. Is this a health food store? What are you selling?
We do sell some health foods, but this is not a regular "health food store." It is a Health food “Farmacy” providing foods and products to improve your health, naturally. A growing number of experts are prescribing whole plant foods as part of a healthy lifestyle. Our products include whole grains, nuts, seeds, vegetables and those hard-to-find items so essential for keeping us healthy. We have books and other educational materials. Come have a look around, and just let us know if there are any other essential products we can help you with. [top]
6. What is “lifestyle health” all about? What kind of a center is this?
Lifestyle health is about the link between how we live and how we feel—our health. Did you know that how we live largely determines how we die? In our modern world we too often ignore this link. Here at the Rocky Mount Lifestyle Health Center we help folks make positive lifestyle changes that address the actual causes of their diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and obesity. We use the proven CHIP program (Coronary Health Improvement Project) that has over 50,000 graduates worldwide. [top]
7. I see you are opening a new business. Will you be hiring soon?
Yes, we have just opened but we have all the staff we need at present. Thank you for your interest. [top]
8. What kind of insurance do you take?
Presently we do not bill any insurance. Each individual must pay up-front for our services and bill their insurance for whatever coverage it may offer. Many of our services may be covered when ordered by a doctor. We can provide you a bill (called a “super bill”) that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement. We suggest that you contact insurance provider to see which services are covered by your policy. If you need help, please contact us for assistance. [top]
9. Is your doctor a ‘real’ medical doctor? What is a ‘lifestyle’ doctor?
Yes, our staff includes a licensed medical doctor who specializes in Lifestyle and Preventive Medicine. He and his staff provide lifestyle health assessment and treatment using the proven CHIP lifestyle education program (Coronary Health Improvement Project). Lifestyle Medicine is a new specialty within the medical field. You can learn more by visiting their web site at www.ACLM.net. [top]
10. What does it cost for the CHIP program? How does it work—do I have to come to your office?
Residential lifestyle programs such as the Pritikin Program, the Ornish Program or the McDougall Program require you to travel across the country to their location for 10-20 days of intensive treatment. These centers charge anywhere from $4,000 to $10,000, and that does not include your travel or time off from work. Our CHIP program has been proven to provide similar results without leaving home. It consists a series of intensive 2-hour sessions four evenings a week for four weeks, followed by 1-hour sessions once-a-week for two months, and then 1-hour sessions once-a-month for a whole year. Our program is physician supervised like the Ornish and McDougall programs, but instead of costing you thousands of dollars it costs you only $895 ($1,295 for a couple). That price has been discounted during our special introductory period to $495 and $695. This is less than the airfare to attend a residential program. And it saves you having to travel across the country and miss time from work. Review one of our CHIP brochures and just let us know if you have any questions. A new program starts up each quarter and includes four free information sessions. We invite you to attend one of them and see for yourself why over 50,000 people have completed the CHIP program. You can also view the Information Session Presentation online. [top]
